IN FOCUS

Isepp, Kolig, Wiegele, Mahringer

Exhibition in the Museum of the Nötscher Kreis
from April 21st to October 27th, 2013

In 2013, the Museum of the Nötscher Kreis celebrates its 15th anniversary. In the exhibitions of the past years, fascinating insights into the work of the individual painters of the Nötscher Kreis and their relationships were explored, so the anniversary is taken as an occasion to present them together at this year’s exhibition. The focus is on selected topics and image motifs. The winter landscapes of Sebastian Isepp are at the center of the show, Anton Kolig’s male nudes, the portraits of women by Franz Wiegele and Anton Mahringer’s depictions of the Dobratsch mountains. The focus on image themes, that the artists preferred to occupy themselves with, impressively demonstrates the artistic independence of the painters of the Nötscher Kreis. The presentation of works from different creative phases also makes their individual development traceable. The exhibition shows all the differences of the individual positions, but also the similarities of the artists, their intense preoccupation with color and their passionate exploration of the possibilities of sculptural representation in painting. The presented works from public and private collections are supplemented by archival material that documents the personal life circumstances of Isepp, Kolig, Wiegele and Mahringer and highlight their relationships to each other.

The exhibition „In Focus“ is once again intended to illustrate the outstanding role of the Nötscher Kreis in the development of Austrian Expressionism in the first half of the 20th Century and demonstrate its international and national art historical importance.
